The Men's Health Grooming Awards (GA) was first started in 2007, and it was intended as a way for our readers to pick out the best grooming products available at that point in time for their needs. This year, was no different. I was personally in charge of handling the inventory for all the products that were sent to us for testing. In total, we handled 205 products and we gathered the help of 47 testers to help test out the various products sent to us.

The awards ceremony was conducted in the chic, relaxed setting of Alcova Cafe & Bar (alcovacafebar.com) last Thursday afternoon. Following the awards presentation was an interesting and entertaining session, sharing the findings of a grooming survey conducted among our readers, earlier this year.

Representatives from L'Oreal Men Expert, Lab Series to Billy Jealousy (just to name a few), attended our tea session, where they were treated to a hearty flow of hors d'oeuvres and drinks from the bar. 

Everyone who attended the event also received a nice door gift with a Men's Health gym towel and a voucher from kimrobinson (www.kimrobinson.com) for a complimentary session. Our winners then received the specially-commissioned crystal plaques from SPH Magazines, Group Editor-in-Chief Ms Caroline Ngui and Managing Director, Ms Maureen Wee during the ceremony. 

From our grooming survey, we discovered that 89% of our readers are primarily concerned with how good the grooming experience is.

This means the Men's Health reader is someone who has begun to see the benefits of grooming and is concerned with the quality and the experience different products provide him. I found it quite interesting that the average Men's Health reader spends anywhere from $50 to $100 on grooming products in a month.

The GA this year was an amazing event. It was my first time attending the awards ceremony, and I must say it was quite an eye-opening experience. Honestly, before I joined Men's Health, I never knew that there were so many people working in the grooming industry, taking care of all those products we see on the shelves.

I am quite glad that I was able to play a part in the execution of the GA this year, and I certainly would like to get involved in it again come 2011.
