It was Seventeen Singapore’s very first Summer Dance on Saturday, June 11, and we truly rocked the roof off dance club Zirca, thanks to the moves and grooves of our five finalist teams. The party was due to kick off at 8pm but the queue into this all-girls dance-off competition was already snaking round the block by 6pm!

Guests were treated to goodie bags and a spritz of Britney Spears fragrance at the door. One sponsor, DessertCup, fed the hungry with Red Velvet — little creamy cupcakes which were both cute and yummy. Another sponsor, Pink Dolphin, handed out drinks to those who were thirsty and found it a tad too early to be knocking back the shots.

It was already a full house as guest judge and dance fitness celebrity, Bill Calhoun, stepped into the club with Seventeen’s Contributing Editor, Valerie Wee.

The event also welcomed up-and-coming girl group Blush, who brought the temperature up with songs from their debut album. They also sang “Undivided” — a lead single featuring renowned rapper Snoop Dogg — to much cheering from the crowd. In between performances, Blush sat back to appraise the competing dancers as guest judges.

The five teams were seen hard at work going through their routines backstage. Rytefully 14 was first to perform and impressed the judges with their enthusiasm. They eventually won the Most Loved trophy — given to the group with the most number of online votes from fans and Seventeen readers. The sweet lasses from Fresh Z had the most vocal supporters in the crowd while In!finite and Rasstars put up a great show with fresh dance moves and cool music to get the audience moving.

The competition was tough, with the girls putting their heart and soul into the contest with original choreography, well-practised steps, refreshing outfits and catchy tunes.

Aside from the star-studded guest performers and judges, there were many others who made the Summer Dance’s debut a resounding success. Compere Soo Wei kept the energy high throughout the night with her witty repartee and interaction with the crowd.

Makeup brand Za and hair salon Headlines Hairdressing using Matrix products worked hard behind the scenes to make all the girls look smoking hot. FreshKon gave all performers “alluring eyes” with coloured contact lenses. The eventual winners walked away with a bounty of treats from Denizen, Za, Matrix, Britney Spears Fragrance, Freshkon contact lenses, Odm watches, Pink Dolphin and shopping vouchers from Orchard Central. Even the audience had a chance to win prizes — the most stylish guy and girl of the night scored Odm watches and Freshkon coloured contact lenses.

Despite the tough fight, there can only be one champion. The coveted title of Seventeen Singapore Summer Dance — Superstar went to M&M for their unforgettable red fans and tightly executed routine.

Well done! See you next year for another great party!

XOXO
