SPH Magazines Supports Entrepreneurial Initiatives for Inter-JC Pageant
Singapore, 28 December 2007 – SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines) is pleased to announce its support for a group of young entrepreneurs in organizing a national-wide pageant for Junior Colleges in Singapore.
The concept of an inter-junior college pageant was birthed by a group of tertiary students from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2006. This same group of students who call themselves, Hollywood Glamour Production Team, is headed by Ms Wang Wan Ting and Mr. James Ngee. “It has always been our dream to start an event organizing project, and be able to make a profit from it. So when it materialised last year with pretty good outcome, we were elated and didn’t want to stop. It’s definitely a very precious learning platform for all of us in the team as we prepare ourselves for the real corporate world,” said Wan Ting. The success of the inaugural pageant last year drove the team to think even bigger and hence looked to a corporate mentor to help them take this business initiative to an even greater height.
Noting the ambitions of the Hollywood Glamour Production Team, SPH Magazines’ Managing Director, Mr Allen Loh approached the student leaders to explore the possibilities for a positive collaboration.
“I marvelled at this group of students’ creativity and boldness to take on this entrepreneurial challenge even while they are still at school. Their initiatives are right up SPH Magazines’ alley in event management business. We have strong event management capabilities and deep resources. Providing them with guidance and mentoring them on the professional aspects of the business therefore came very naturally,” commented Allen Loh.
“We are thankful that a premiere regional publisher like SPH Magazines agreed to support the pageant this year not only with the offer of Seventeen as an official media, but also as our Event Management Consultant. SPH Magazines truly is a resourceful provider and has graciously offered their professional advice and help to ensure that this business proposition will not only make money for us but also show us the trade to develop our skills and mindset even further.” Wan Ting added.
SPH Magazines’ CEO, Mr Loh Yew Seng said, “One of our corporate values also require us to enrich society. This opportunity to support young budding entrepreneurs to organise an acclaimed event is therefore very apt. As part of our corporate vision to be a world class Publisher of Choice, we will continue to be open to similar opportunities to nurture and empower young entrepreneurial initiatives.”
SPH Magazines is supporting Hollywood Glamour Production Teamby giving team consultation on all business aspects of event management including styling and make-up, photography, catwalk and providing studios and training rooms for the contestants. Seventeen, a SPH Magazines’ title, being its official media, will give pre and post publicity for the event in the coming issues of the magazine.
