Singapore’s original urban obstacle race returns for its eighth year, looking set to be the biggest and toughest edition yet. Men’s Health Urbanathlon 2017 is as urban as it gets, with the running route and obstacles cutting through the heart of Orchard Road.
This Saturday on 4 March, Urbanathletes will kick off their free-form running experience from Ngee Ann City and plan their own route to four Obstacle Zones’ locations (which were revealed to runners beforehand), over an estimated 12km course.
Participants are to pit their physical and mental prowess against the four mega Obstacle Zones, to complete them in the following sequence:
Zone 1: Vertical Heights, located at Tanjong Pagar Centre.
Urbanathletes will test their endurance with a 37-storey vertical run up Singapore’s tallest building.
Zone 2: Road Block, located at the field opposite Marina Bay Financial Tower 3.
Participants will negotiate their way through a sea of shipping containers and barricades, where their agility is put to the test on obstacles such as Road Barricades, Tyre Ladder and Container Tread.
Zone 3: Maze Runner, located at the field opposite Golden Landmark.
Runners will make their way through our first-ever maze running obstacle zone, where they’ll encounter various obstacles such as the Monkey Bar, Tyre Swing and Pole Traverse.
Zone 4: Urban Warrior, located at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza.
A brand new multi-stage obstacle structure with grueling challenges that only the fittest can survive. Urbanathletes will have to negotiate the Quad Steps, Peg Board and Horizontal Salmon Ladder, before meeting the highlight of the Urban Warrior course — the Warped Wall, where they will run up a 3.6m high wall and claim their bragging rights as an Urban Warrior. Successful challengers of the Urban Warrior zone will be rewarded with an exclusive Finisher’s Towel.
Celebrity Showdown at 2pm
About 20 local luminaries will face off with each other at the Urban Warrior course. Our celebrity challengers include Allan Wu, and Maxi Lim, Charlie Goh, Bunz and Noah Yap of Ah Boys to Men fame, together with almost the entire stable of ONE FM 91.3 DJs, including Glenn Ong, Andre Hoeden, Shaun Tupaz, Shan Wee, Cheryl Miles, Elliot Danker and Harry Corro.
Other participating celebrities include UFM DJ Low Wei Loong, Singapore’s professional race car driving couple Yuey Tan and Claire Louise Jedrek, S-League footballer Fabian Kwok, Randall Tan, Adrian Jalaludin, Fiona Lim, Wallace Ang and Caleb Wong.
Apart from catching their favourite personalities in action at the Showdown, Urbanathletes will get to enjoy complimentary beer, food and entertainment at the vibrant race village at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza after crossing the finishing line. Friends and family members of runners are welcome to cheer them on at each obstacle zone, and join in the post-race festivities.
