HardwareZone Celebrated with its Members for the 15 Years of Loving

HardwareZone has turned 15 this August and to celebrate this occasion, we have decided to hold it the celebration at the Singapore Zoo, where we can interact with our members in a different way. We figured that a large part of our members has matured, married and raised family of their own and the Zoo would be a perfect location.

The event was conveyed as an outdoor social event to thank members for their support and loyalty to HardwareZone.com and the team. There were plenty of attractive prizes to be given away, including lunch and generous goodie bags for all participants. Prizes included 3D/2N hotel accomodations in Bangkok and Yangon, Raymond Weil timepieces, a HP Split x2 notebook and many more.

The event was open to all HardwareZone members, their friends and family. Though there is a fee of $10, registrations were full just after 3 weeks and we had to turn away requests for additional slots as we were already running at full capacity. An event microsite was built to facilitate online registration and sharing of event details, with marketing all done via HardwareZone.com.sg. The eventual turn up at the event was over 230.

Participants were required to clear tasks at every station, gain points and obtain clues to move on to the next station. Station games made use of gadgets provided by sponsors and tasks were cleared using special features of the allocated gadgets. “Pictionary” was played on a HP ENVY x2 notebook that doubled up as a tablet. “Capture the Moment” was played using a Sony Xperia Z Ultra Smartphone to take photos within a water playground thus bringing out its waterproof feature. “Hear ye hear ye” was played using Audio Technica headphones and HP notebooks, where participants had to decipher animal sounds within noisy background music. “Speak the Lingo” was played to see how familiar participants are to lingoes used on HardwareZone forums. QR codes were also used to retrieve clues for moving on to the next station.

Social media buzz was generated from a prize category for the Best Social Media User Award. Photos were posted and shared on Instagram and Facebook using a hashtag provided.

This is the first time HardwareZone.com Singapore organised an event of this scale in an outdoor setting, but the team, with the assistance of an event planner, rose to the challenge, worked tirelessly and got the whole event running successfully. We are also grateful to sponsors like HP, AsiaWebDirect, Raymond Weil and many others who supported us and saw the benefit and value of partnering with us for this event.

This event has reminded us that HardwareZone members aren’t just technology geeks but mature audiences with families and friends who are important social influencers for the next generation of technology lovers.

Forum Engagement in HardwareZone.com Drives Traffic & Sales To Retail Store

Stereo Electronics needed a marketing platform that allows them to share information and engage with new and existing customers on the latest promotions, new products information and new products arrival. HardwareZone.com being the market leader for technology news and reviews, with its very active and popular forum platform, provides the ideal marketing channel for Stereo Electronics.

Marketing Objectives:

Communicate & reach out to the Headphone & Earphones enthusiasts and potential buyers.

Create a channel that allows Stereo Electronics to provide e-customer service.

Duration:

12 months (May 2010 – April 2011)

HardwareZone.com Marketing Solution:

With Stereo Electronics’ objective of maintaining constant communication with the Headphone & Earphones community, the HardwareZone.com Forum Sponsorship strategy is perfect for their marketing needs. A 12-month forum sponsorship of the HardwareZone.com Headphones & Earphones Forum was proposed and implemented.

3 sponsored forum sticky threads were created for the Stereo Electronics forum sponsorship which comprised of a Stereo Promotion sticky thread, a Stereo New products Arrival sticky thread and a Post-your-rig sticky thread. Stereo Electronics used these 3 sticky threads to communicate information of the latest products and promotions and to address any customer enquiries.

Results:

These 3 sticky threads generated high viewership within the Headphone & Earphones forum with more than 180,000 views to date (see screenshot 2). The frequent updates to these 3 sticky threads led to the success of the 12-month forum sponsorship campaign as they meet the continuous request and queries needs of the HardwareZone.com community.
