Results are out for the fifth G Top 100 Wine Awards

By Meryl Koh – Senior Writer, The Peak.

After a rigorous two-day blind-tasting process of close to 300 wines with 13 of Singapore’s wine experts, The Peak Selections: Gourmet and Travel is proud to announce the results of its G Top 100 Wine Awards with 250 guests at White Rabbit.

Italy’s Marchesi di Barolo Cannubi, Barolo DOCG 2008 was chosen as “Red Wine of the Year”. The Van Volxem Riesling Alte Reben 2012 from Germany was “White Wine of the Year”, while the Premium Botrytis Semillon 2008 from Australia’s Shaw Vineyard Estate snagged “Sweet Wine of the Year”.

This year’s wine selection originated from 12 countries and was submitted by 31 local importer-distributors. Judging was based on wine quality, using a 20-point scoring system. In particular, this year saw a good showing of quality pinot noirs, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet sauvignon blends.

Into its fifth year, the G Top 100 Wine Awards has become the definitive list of the best 100 wines from the local industry. It recognises wine-makers and top grade wines, as well as outstanding producers and importers who make a conscientious effort for proper storage and handling of wines.

Other wines that scored as high as 18 points were highlighted as ‘Panellist Pick’. This year also saw the creation of a new category, ‘Gem Unearthed’, for intriguing wine styles that panellists had yet encountered.

sylvMr Sylvester Ng, project editor of The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel, said: “Every year, since 2010 the G Top 100 Wines has successfully singled out the best of the best wines in the market and it has become the definitive and authoritative go-to list for wine enthusiasts.”

In the recent Media Publishers Association Singapore (MPAS) Awards 2014, The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel received the prestigious accolade of Food Media of the Year.

The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel is priced at S$18.00 and available at leading Singapore bookstores like Kinokuniya, Times, MPH, and Times Newslink. Digital editions are available via App Store and google play.
