Media Release: The Finder Expatpreneur Awards 2019

May 3, 2019

Two years ago, The Finder – the longest-running publication for expats in Singapore – debuted its first-ever Expatpreneur Awards to honour foreign-born entrepreneurs running successful businesses in and from Singapore. Today, The Finder unveiled its 2019 winners with the release of Issue 298.

What do all of The Finder Expatpreneur Awardees have in common? Beyond just showing admirable vision and drive, their brands help people “live well in Singapore” – The Finder’s own core mission.

A publication under SPH Magazines, The Finder was founded on entrepreneurship – it was started by two female British expatriates in 1993 to provide trusted business listings to fellow foreigners – and is still committed to serving Singapore’s diverse community.

For the Awards’ third edition, The Finder assembled a panel of esteemed judges, including Singapore University of Social Sciences Senior Lecturer Dr Yvonne McNulty, who is credited with coining the term “expat-preneur” in 2015, as well as Angela Torres-Andresen, Founder and Executive Director of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce, Singapore.

As The Finder’s Editor-in-Chief Sara Lyle Bow explains in Issue 298 of the magazine: “To get to this year’s unveiling of the Awards, we spent months canvassing for and fielding nominations. Then, we vetted the nominees, prepped the candidates’ materials for the judges, tallied the judges’ scores, informed the winners and – finally! – wrote about why they’re all so awesome.”

The Finder gave out six Special Awards to candidates deemed exceptional even

amongst the impressive cohort, and produced exclusive videos about these impressive individuals. This year’s Special Award winners include:

Expatpreneur of the Year –  Dean Brettschneider   Founder, Baker Boy + CEO, Baker & Cook, Plank Sourdough Pizza, Mo & Jo Sourdough Burgers + Brettschneider’s Baking & Cooking School

Longevity Award winner –  John Marcarian   Founder, CST Tax Advisors + Expatland Global Network

Best Green Business Award winner –  Stephanie Dickson   Founder + CEO, Green Is The New Black

The Finder is also excited to announce a first: This year, it is asking its followers to determine a Reader Favourite!
